Lady Miners record second straight shut-out
Izzy Carpenter tossed her second straight shutout as Linton-Stockton defeated visiting Washington 7-0 here Wednesday in a non-conference high school softball game.
With the win, Carpenter pushed her season record to 7-6, and the Lady Miners improved to 7-8 on the season.
The junior hurler tossed a four-hitter and fanned 12 batters in her seven innings of work.
"This was a very nice win tonight," Lady Miners coach Jill Flater said. "It was Izzy's second consecutive shutout and that goes hand in hand with good defense behind her."
Carpenter had plenty of offensive support behind her as well, as the Lady Miners scored their seven runs by pounding out 10 hits for the game and took advantage of five miscues by the Hatchets defense.
"It was good to see us put the bat on the ball like we did tonight," Flater said. "We did a good job of putting the ball in play and putting pressure on their defense."
Hali Murray led the 10-hit attack with a 3-for-4 effort the dish and also drove in a pair of runs.
Sam Butt and Jenica Ringo also had a pair of hits for the Lady Miners and each was credited with an RBI.
Megan Barnes recorded the Miners only other RBI with a single.
Flater mentioned that Murray deserved some credit for helping Carpenter keep her shutout in tact.
"Hali did an outstanding job behind the plate tonight. There were some pitches that ended up in the dirt or out of the strike zone with runners on base and she did a great job of keeping their runners from advancing."
Brittany Rehmel and Taneal Church also had a single apiece for the Lady Miners.
Linton-Stockton will return to the diamond when they play host to Eastern Greene today.
