Lady Wolverines top Eastern Greene

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

Stephanie Fougerousse tossed a two-hitter as White River Valley defeated visiting Eastern Greene 5-0 in a Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference softball game Wednesday.

Fougerousse fanned 16 and walked two as she improved to 7-5. She has all of the decisions for the Lady Wolverines, who improved to 2-3 in the SWIAC.

She allowed a single and double to Eastern Greene catcher Amber Clark.

WRV coach Ruan Fougerousse said she was pleased with the base running of Tasha Baker and Miranda Dupire in the fourth inning.

"We scored two in the fourth as a direct result of our base running," said Fougerousse. "We have been working on that. If we had run the bases like we did tonight, we would probably be 10-2 instead of 7-5."

Dupire went 2-for-4 with the run scored. Fougerousse went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and DeLaney Sanders was 1-for-4.

Rachel Mowery extended her hitting streak as she was 1-for-3 with one RBI. Jenna Rollins added a single in three at bats and scored one run. In a role of a pinch runner, Haylee Holtsclaw scored a run.

"Tonight the girls did a lot of good things," said Fougerousse. "They did a good job of reading things and making plays.

"I am really happy with the way the girls have been playing of late."

Madison McCabe (0-10) allowed seven hits and suffered the loss for Eastern Greene. She struck out five, walked four and hit a batter as the Lady Thunderbirds slipped to 0-10, 0-4 in the conference.

White River Valley will host Cloverdale at 5:30 p.m. today.

Eastern Greene will play another SWIAC game at Linton-Stockton today as well.
