Betty Jane Buzan Johnson, 83, of Terre Haute, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Davis Gardens Health Center.
She was born April 17, 1925, in Terre Haute, the daughter of Clarence William Buzan and Edith Rausch Buzan.
She married James R. Johnson on Aug. 19, 1949, and he preceded her in 1983.
She was a registered nurse graduating from Union Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She opened and founded the Vigo County Health Department Communicable Disease Clinic and was the director for many years. She was also the Director of Nursing for several nursing homes in and around Terre Haute, retiring from Davis Gardens Health Care Facility in 1993.
She was a member of the Memorial United Methodist, Daughters of the Nile and Delta Zeta Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority.
Survivors include four children, Jamie Johnson and Michael Page of Homosassa Springs, Fla., Greg Johnson of Brazil, Trudy Rupska and husband Jim of Terre Haute, and Barbara Eichhorst and husband Scott of Linton; grandchildren, Clint Johnson of Illinois, Andrew Rupska and wife Dianna of Riley, Michael "Mickey" Rupska, Tony Rupska, Betsy Evans and Joe Evans, all of Terre Haute; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Dane Rupska of Linton; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, David Buzan; and sister, Mary Ruth Schneider.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., Terre Haute with the Rev. Scott Johnson officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Visitation is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. The ESA Sorority will have services just prior to the services Friday.
