John H. Priest, 89 of Linton, passed at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.

He was born in Linton on Sept. 30, 1918, the son of Nathan and Henrietta (Alderson) Priest.

He served in the United States Army in the 5th Armored Division under the command of General Patton during World War II, earning five battle stars. He retired from General Electric in 1980. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 22, the B.P.O. Elks No. 866, and a fifty-year member of the F & AM Lodge No. 560, all of Linton.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Snow) Priest of Linton, whom he married on Aug. 18, 1945; two sons, Steve Priest (Kathy) and Jim Priest (Sherri), both of Linton; a daughter, Peggy Walker (Bill) of Linton; a sister, Mary Ann Robison (Bob) of Linton; eight grandchildren, Heather Yung (John), Cris Walker (Claudia), Mike Walker, Nathan Priest, Stephanie Krebbs (Austin), Ricky Templeton (Amy), & Josh Templeton (Rebecca); and 10 great-grandchildren, Haley Yung, Cayden and Camryn Walker, Matthew Krebbs, Bria, Parker, Trevor, Crystal, Bryan and Katlyn Templeton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Herbert Grayson Priest on June 27, 2005; and a brother, James Earl Priest in 1955.

Services will be conducted at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home , Linton Chapel at 3 p.m. Saturday with Brother Dick Smith officiating. Military rites conducted by the American Legion Post No.22 will follow the service.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday with Masonic Services at 7 p.m. and Saturday from 2 p.m. until the time of service.
