Vercie Mae Martin, 93, of Linton, passed away at 9:43 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at the Linton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Linton.
She was born Dec. 21, 1914, in Greene County, Indiana, the daughter of James and Vercie (Heacox) Sargent.
She worked at Kennedy Shoe Store in Linton for 25 years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Linton First Baptist Church, was Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and was a pink lady at Greene County General Hospital.
Survivors include: two sons, John Richardson and his wife, Helen and David Richardson and his wife, Janet, all of Pagosa Springs, Col.; four grandchildren, John David Richardson, Jeffrey Todd Richardson, David Ray Richardson and Andrew Richardson; and three great-grandchildren, David, Christopher and Grace.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Gilbert E. Richardson, Nov. 28, 1944, her second husband, Ray Martin, two brothers, Ray & Arthur Sargent; and a sister, Jeannette Alsman.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 16, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel with Rev. David Tyra officiating.
Burial will follow at Samaria Cemetery, near Dugger.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday and after 11 a.m. Friday until the hour of the service.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to Linton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center through the funeral home.
