To the Editor:

The family of Lily Lee Bailey would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at the Shakamak Good Samaritan Center.

Mom spent nearly three years there after suffering a massive stroke. We cannot express enough of our gratitude for the kindness shown and tender care she received there. From the administration to aids to nurses, we always felt like the care given to their residents was not a job but rather a calling.

We felt truly blessed that mom was able to spend her last few years in a place where the folks who cared for her were genuinely compassionate and had loving hearts. Thank you for being the good Samaritans that you are. May the Lord continue to bless each one of you.

We also would like to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Paul Esguerra, who was mom's doctor from the time she arrived here in Indiana. We cannot adequately put into words the appreciation we have for all you have done, from middle-of-the-night ER calls to transfers from the nursing home to handling midnight admissions to the hospital. You went beyond providing excellent medical care as you treated her less like a patient than as a member of your family. And we cannot express enough our thanks to you for the time you spent with our family when she passed away.

And finally, to Todd Walton of Welch and Cornett, we would like to say from our hearts, thank you. We are all still talking about how very kind you were, from the viewing to helping us with planning the service to the funeral itself. Your patience and compassion helped ease the pain of what was an otherwise devastating event for us. We are so very thankful we found you to handle her arrangements.
