Cutting your grass shows you have pride

Wednesday, May 28, 2008

To the Editor:

According to Ordinance No. 2004-2005, it shall be the duty of every person to cut their grass six (6) times a year. These are once between April 15 and April 30; once between May 15 and May 31; once between June 15 and June 30; once between July 15 and July 30; once between August 15 and August 30; and once between September 15 and September 30.

Although the grass will surely need to be mowed again before fall but these are legal days given. Residents may call the mayor's office at 847-7754 or the fire department at 847-4413 to report a piece of property in need.

The fire chief will make a trip to investigate and go to the assessor's office to get a detail of the property owner, not the renter. At that time the owner will receive a certified letter from our office with the complaint. Often that will take care of the situation but not always, as you can see all over town. Some lots have been abandoned and in bankruptcy or sold at a sheriff's sale. Others are in the hands of realtors or a bank.

It truly is a frustrating and never ending situation. The city of Linton is asking you as a property owner to check and see that it is maintained by you or your renter. The mosquito season is upon us and also it harbors insects, rodents and pests. By maintaining our property you show pride in your home and that you care about the health and safety for you and your neighbors.
