Pastor John Alden Booker, 69, passed away at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at his residence in Dugger.

He was born in Linton on Jan. 5, 1939 to Belle (Bedwell) and Floyd Booker.

He graduated from Linton-Stockton High School in 1957. From 1961-1964, John served in the U.S. Army as a medic. He was the pastor of Martz Community Church in Clay City from 1969-1985. He served as pastor of Faith Community Church from 1985 to the present. John held the position as chaplain for the Dugger American Legion. He was a butcher for Booker's Market for 23 years. John also enjoyed serving as the director of the Dugger Coal Festival for several years.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judith (Swan) Booker; his daughter, Angela; his son-in-law, Todd Heuby; grandson, Coy Heuby, brother and sister-in-law: Chet and Madge Booker; a niece and her husband, Dianna and John LeDune, along with many other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, John David Booker (November, 1983); three brothers, Norman, Earle, Tom and one sister, Hilda (Booker) Reed.

Visitation and funeral services will be held at Faith Community Church, 4 miles south of Dugger on Highway 159.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m.Thursday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday.

A celebration of John's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday with Larry Bedwell, Rev. Nick Moore, and Rev. Cletus Bough officiating.

Burial will be at Dugger Cemetery and Military Rites will be preformed by Dugger American Legion Post 224.

Newkirk's Funeral Home in Dugger is in charge of arrangements.
