Allen W. "Chip" Clayton, Jr., 66, of Vincennes, passed away June 20, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.
He was born Feb. 1, 1942 in Greene County to Allen W., Sr. and Garnett Summerville Clayton. He married Mary (Newell) Clayton on May 29, 1976 and she survives.
Chip was a graduate of L & M High School and Nashville Diesel College. He retired as a transport refrigeration mechanic and later was a private contractor for Double C Construction. He was a member of First Baptist Church - where he was currently serving as Chairman of the Diaconate Board and where he enjoyed driving the bus for many church activities. He was a member of Duck's Unlimited where he had served as Chairman of the Knox County Chapter and a member of various chapters statewide. He was a lifetime member of NRA, the Elk's and Verne Store "Old Crows Club".
Survivors include: his wife of Vincennes; and his five children, Brian and Margaret Anderson, Kelly Halter (Gregg Dreiman), Tamra Nowaskie (Tim Wonning), all of Vincennes, Greg and Kim Clayton of Indianapolis and Kim and Brent Small of Santa Clarita, CA; sister Sue Ellen Aguilar and her husband Dr. John of Virginia; grandchildren Luke Halter and Jessi Nowaskie of Vincennes, Natalie Clayton and Ben Clayton of Indianapolis, Ali and Isaiah Small of Santa Clarita, CA, and his mother-in-law Louise Newell of Lawrenceville, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Donald L. Clayton; and a grandson, Jake Anderson.
Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday June 24, at First Baptist Church in Vincennes with Rev.Dan Clemens officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m at the church.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church.
Arrangements are being conducted by Goodwin Funeral Home in Vincennes.
