Doris Combs, 94, of Bloomington, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Garden Villa in Bloomington.
Born Sept. 8, 1913 in Daviess County, she was the daughter of Earl and Lena (Malone) Johnson. She graduated from Worthington High School in 19322 and earned a teaching certificate Indiana State University in Terre Haute. She taught in Greene County at Campground and Waterworks schools. She helped organize and work for the first Greene County Welfare Department in Bloomfield.
She worked in advertising for 22 years at the former Bloomington Telephone newspaper -- retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church, Joy Circle and Twin Lakes Co-Workers Extension Homemaker's Club.'
She is survived by a son, William E. Combs and wife, Lynda of Bloomfield; a son, Steven J. Combs and wife, Darlene, of Indianapolis; granddaughter, Christine (Tina) Combs of Jacksonville, FL; a grandson, John Combs and wife, Gwen, and their children, Eli, Isaac, Elizabeth and Peter of Bloomfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendall in 1981; a sister, Elsie Hasler; and brother, Donald Jackson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Allen Funeral Home on Old State Road 37 in Bloomington with Pastor Billy Edd Hostettler officiating. Burial will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
