He was born July 4, 1944, in Terre Haute, the son of Carl & Mary Bell (Petro) Deischer.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge #560, American Legion Post #22, & VFW Post #7118, all of Linton, and was Past Commander of the VFW. He served in the United States Army from 1962-1967 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a drill sergeant at Ft. Lewis, Washington. He also served in Korea and Germany.
Survivors include: his wife, Margaret (Kugler) Deischer of Linton, to whom he was married May 5, 1966; a son, Bill (Becky) Deischer of Linton; two daughters, Mariann (Dave) Fields of Linton and Heidi Woodruff of Linton; a brother, Carl Deischer of Goshen; and a sister, Donna McCoskey of Blackhawk, nine grandchildren, Isaac and Jessica Donie, Jonathon Secrest, Aubrey and Wyatt Franklin, Maggie Woodruff, and Dyllanne, Patton, and Aurek Deischer; andtwo great-grandchildren, Madison Russell & Kalen Donie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, John A. Deischer, Oct. 7, 2004, and a sister, Linda Armstrong, in 1975.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday July 7, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel with Mike Chapman officiating.
Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The Linton American Legion & VFW will conduct military graveside rites.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Masonic services will be conducted at 7 P.M. on Sunday.
