Ray Merrill Pafford, 92, of Bloomington, died Tuesday morning at his residence.

Born Nov. 26, 1915 in Stanford, Ind., he was the son of Homer S. and Matilda (Butcher) Pafford.

He was a carpenter and belonged to the Carpenter's Union for 72 years. He was a member of the Walnut Grove Church of Christ and enjoyed reading, genealogy research, and farming. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He is survived by his wife, Clarabelle (Teague) Pafford, whom he married Dec. 9, 1939, of Bloomington, his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Ray and Brenda Pafford, of Linton; granddaughters, Valerie Messer and her husband, Darin, of Greenwood, Shanna Groznik and her husband, Peter, of Slovenia and Ashley Pafford, of Slovenia and two great-grandsons, Garrett and Cole Messer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Mabel Hornocker, Maude Sanborn and Alma Carmichael-Long and three brothers, Clovis Glen Pafford, Dwight Pafford, and Wilbur Pafford.

The funeral service will be today (Thursday) at 1 p.m. at Day Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Donald Snow and Bro. Nick Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Hill Cemetery where the Veterans Honor Guard will perform military graveside rites.

Friends visited the family at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.
