Shirley Stiffler St. John, 73, of Bon Secour, Ala., and formerly of Fraser, Mich., passed away Thursday, July 31, 2008.
She was born on May 9, 1935 in Jasonville to William and Leona Stiffler.
She was a graduate of State Laboratory School in Terre Haute, was a Christian.
On May 14, 1953 she married Paul St. John in Terre Haute. They recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
Prior to her family's move to the Gulf area in 1992, she was an active participant in Fraser, Mich., school activities, and as a Girl Scout leader, her troop was recognized as the leading troop in the larger suburban Detroit area in 1976. She also served as President of a Michigan professional women's organization focused on child study. Her employment years involved management, teaching handicapped children and concluded as the office manager and as a counselor on the Senior Pastor's staff at St. Clair Shores Assembly of God. She also served on the Alabama State Board for Retarded Citizens of Baldwin County for several years.
She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Paul Douglas.
She is survived by her husband, Paul St. John; her children Jennifer, Starlyn and Donald St. John (Kimberly); four grandchildren: Lacy, Erica, Tyler and Molly St. John and one great-granddaughter; her siblings Donald Stiffler and his wife Myla of Brazil, Jerry Stiffler and his wife Carolyn of Pass Christian, Miss., and Norma McDonald of Newburg, OR; her many nieces and nephew.
Visitation will be Monday from 6--8 p.m. at Pine Rest Funeral Home, Foley, Ala.
Funeral services will be Tuesday from Gulfway Assembly of God with Pastor Rick Long of Christian Life Church and Pastor Bruce Dumond of Gulfway Assembly of God officiating.
Burial will be at Pine Rest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
