Donald Harting, 83, of Edwardsport, passed away at 2:46 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at Crestview Convalescent Center in Vincennes.
He was born on Sept. 10, 1924, in Wheatland, the son of Bonnie (McKinley) Harting and Paul Harting. He married Freda Katherine Pierson in May 1951, she died May 23, 2005.
He owned and operated the Edwardsport Elevator for 41 years. He was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ, the American Legion and the Disabled American Vets. He served in the Army during World War II, where he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
Surviving are a daughter, Kaye E. Kiely of Evansville; son, Kent A. Harting of Linton; sister, Doris Johnson of Sun Prairie, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a son-in-law, Phillip Kiely.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Bicknell Chapel with the Rev. Ken Kramer will officiating.
Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Westphalia.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
