Cards top WRV
The Bloomfield boys and girls cross country teams picked up a pair of victories Wednesday over county and Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference foe White River Valley at home. There was no official team score as the Wolverines did not have a complete team. The Wolverines had three runners in the boys race and just two in the girls race.
Andy Cochrane and Julie Riggins took home top honors for the Cardinals. Cochrane covered the 3.1 mile course for the boys in a winning time of 18 minutes and 38 seconds. Riggins captured the girls race in 20:48. WRV's Jennifer Hughes was second to Riggins with a time of 21:26.
The Cardinals took the top 17 spots in the boys race, as Ty Robbins was the first Wolverine to cross the line. Robbins time was 22:48. Trey Graves placed 20 for the Wolverines with a time of 23:35 while Cole Goodman also competed for WRV, finishing 23rd with a time of 27:08.
Kyle Smith and Gavin Thompson had a battle for second place. Smith crossed just ahead of Thompson with a time of 19:02 while Thompson was two seconds behind. Matthew Hanauer was not far behind as he finished fourth with a time of 19:15 and Graham Helms placed fifth in 19:42.
Robert Buka and Ryan O'Neall rounded out the top seven for the Cardinals with times of 19:50 and 19:58 respectively.
Tony Albertson (20:11), Zac Query (20:56), R.J. Brown (21:01), Bryce Helms (21:13), Brandon Lindsey (22:29), Taylor Helms (21:24), Keaton Haywood (21:31), Jordan Arford (22:14), Bryce Lindsey (22:29), Andrew Bladen (22:38), Sean Hanauer (22:52), Eric Barlow (25:27), Ben Vandeventer (25:43) and Kurt Schulte (27:24) rounded out the Cardinals roster.
After Riggins and Hughes, the Cardinals took the next five spots (3-7) as Sarah Miller (22:44), Paige Warren (23:51), Avery Frederick (25:02), Meghan Bucher (27:00) and Kelsey Bucher (27:18) finished ahead of Lady Wolverines runner Abby Henry. Henry's time of 28:37 was good for eighth place.
Brittney Combs (28:37), Abby Vest (28:59), Bri Head (33:47) and Emily Riggins (36:30) rounded out the Lady Cardinal runners.
The Wolverines will return to the course Thursday in the Edgewood Invitational, while the Cardinals harriers will compete in the Martinsville Invite Saturday.
