BHS JV wins, varsity loses

Bloomfield started strong, but lost to host North Central 25-14, 25-23, 17-25, 9-25, 7-15 in a high school volleyball match Wednesday night at Farmersburg.

The loss dropped the Lady Cardinals to 4-4.

"We played great the first 2 1/2 games," said first-year Bloomfield coach Jennifer Heaton. "We did everything well at the start, but could not get our blocks up late. All of our blocking came in the first 2 1/2 games.

"Our passing also was not very good the last 2 1/2 games. North Central has some good hitters and they were hitting over us. Our blocks just did not get there when we need them."

Shelby Gott (22 of 22), Kendra Spelts (16 of 16) and Holly Zschiedrich (13 of 13) combined to go 51 of 51 serving. Overall, the Lady Cardinals were 78-for-84.

"Our serving was good tonight," said Heaton.

Gott had two aces, 23 points and 19 digs. Spelts finished with 27 assists, 13 points, four kills and six digs. Zschiedrich collected three aces, 14 points and four digs.

Ariel Fuller had seven digs and 10 points. Katie Walker was credited with one kill and three blocks and Kaitilyn O'Neall added two kills and two digs.

Elyse Weddle had 13 kills, four blocks, a team-high 19 digs and six points.

Sarah Scott tallied two kills, two blocks and three digs while Kelsie Spelts made 17 of 18 serves, ending with, one ace, 18 points and nine digs.

Letitia Poe had two kills and three blocks and Leairra Thompson had a team-best 16 kills and nine blocks to go with one dig.

The Bloomfield junior varsity defeated North Central 25-18, 25-17.

Alley Gilliland had 10 points, three aces, five assists, two kills and one dig. Taylor Gilmore finished with nine points, four aces, four kills and a dig.

Cariena Rosalez had seven points, one ace and one kill while Rachel Helms finished with seven points, two kills and three assists.

Bailee Byers had nine points, one ace, four digs and two kills. Jordan Gillenwater had one kill and Hallie Retseck finished with eight points, two aces and one dig.

The Lady Cardinals will play Thursday at Sullivan.
