Classes at Learning Center
Three short computer classes and a Beginning Spanish class are on the schedule for September at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School in Switz City. Computing Fundamentals will show the beginning computer user the basics steps to understanding and using their computer including Microsoft Windows XP, using e-mail and the internet. The class begins September 10 and meets for four Wednesday evenings from 6- 9 pm. Cost is $55. For those who are familiar with the computer but want to know how to create a database, run queries and produce reports a Beginning Microsoft Access class will be held for three Thursday evenings starting September 11. Cost is $129.50 A one-day workshop on Microsoft Word's mail merge feature will be held Thursday, September 18 from 6-9 p.m. Cost is $30. A Beginning Conversational Spanish class will start on September 16 and meet for ten Tuesday evenings from 6-9 p.m. This class focuses on everyday phrases and vocabulary that can help the Spanish traveler or those who need to converse in Spanish. Cost is $229 plus a book. Deadline for registration is one week before the start of class. Call the learning center 659-3862 to register or for more information.
WRV School Board
The WRV School Board will meet in special session at 8 p.m. today to conduct public hearings on the 2009 budget.

The Hendricksville Area Association will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 8 at the community building.

The Armpreister reunion will be at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 13 pool side at Linton's Humphreys Park.
Bloomfield Chamber meeting
The Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce's monthly meeting will be Sept. 11 at noon at the Pepperoni Grill. The meeting was originally scheduled for today.
Eastern Greene Chamber to meet
The Eastern Greene Chamber of Commerce's month meeting is today at 7 p.m. at the Eastern Greene High School library.
Bloomfield Cubs Scout Pack 468
Bloomfield Cubs Scout Pack 468 will hold its Kick Off Fun Day Saturday at the Bloomfield Town Park (South Shelter House). The Kick Off Day will be from 1-3 p.m. Food, games, an information about Cub Scouts in Bloomfield will also be available. Boys in grades 1-5 are eligible to join. New Cub Scouts and returning Scouts are encouraged to attend. Weekly meetings will start at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield. The church is located at 500 Lincoln Drive. Linton Girls Softball
The Linton Girls Softball Association will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. today. The purpose of the meeting is to elect the board of directors. This is an open meeting with the nominees selected. No nominees will be accepted from attendees.

The Marco United Methodist Church will hold a fish fry and gospel sing at 4 p.m. Sept. 20.
Bloomfield First Baptist Church
hosts dedication
First Baptist Bloomfield, 500 Lincoln Drive, will formally dedicate its new Christian Life Center on Sept. 14. The public is invited to take part in the festivities, which will include a 6 p.m. concert featuring the Greybeard gospel singers followed by a reception and tours of the facility. Sylvania Wesleyan Church homecoming
Sylvania Wesleyan Church will be having its annual Homecoming on Sept. 14. The speaker will be Rev. Norman Wilson. Special singer will be Todd York. Sunday in the Park
A Sunday in the Park is scheduled for Sept. 14 in Lyons. It will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. The schedule -- 10:30 a.m., church service; 11 a.m., For His Glory gospel singing group; noon, free ham and bean dinner and outdoor dutch oven cooking demonstration and free games for children. Afternoon bands will include WRV Jamin Pans, Ambience, Mandy Herndon, and Matthew Wall.
Shakamak Class of 1983 Reunion
The Shakamak High School Class of 1983 will hold its 25th year class reunion on Sept. 26 at the Old Bank & Co. Restaurant in Linton. Wilson vegetable soup
The annual Wilson vegetable soup will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Wright Township Firehouse.
Weddle reunion
The descendants of Carl and Floe Weddle will hold a reunion at noon Saturday at the east shelterhouse at Linton's Humphreys Park.
Greene County Singles
The Greene County Singles will host a dance and dinner Saturday at the Greene County Extension Building at Switz City. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m., dance from 8- 11 p.m. Admission is $5 with a food item, $6 with a 2 liter soda or $7 empty-handed. For more information call 825-4032.
Jasonville High School class of '58

Book sale in Bloomfield
The Friends of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Library will host their big annual book sale at the main library, 125 South Franklin in Bloomfield, from Sept. 4-7. The hours are Thursday 2 to 8 p.m. (this day is a preview sale for members only - memberships available at door for $5); Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. - open to everyone; Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. -- open to everyone; Sunday 1:30 to 4 p.m. -- open to everyone. Proceeds from the book sale are used to assist the library in many ways, including providing cultural and educational programs for the community. White River Humane Society Ride
Saturday September 20th, 2008 -- Third Annual WRHS Motorcycle Poker Run to benefit homeless and abandoned animals of Lawrence County. Begins at Thornton Park Pavilion, which is behind the Bedford city pool on 16th street. Registration begins at 11:30 -- ride leaves at 12:30. Lunch provided before ride leaves. Cost is $20 a bike, $10 w/additional rider. All proceeds go toward food, cleaning supplies, and medical needs of the animals at the Shelter. Blessed Hope revival

Pro Life dinner
The Greene County Right to Life would like to invite everyone to its annual Pro-Life Dinner on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus building, 450 E. St. NE, Linton, Indiana. Julie McMillan who teaches Post-Abortion Recovery classes in Bloomington will be the keynote speaker. Well-known gospel singer Judith Montgomery will provide the music. Free sign language class
The Worthington-Jefferson Township Library will offer a sign language 16-week course which will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursdays starting Sept. 4. Habitat taking applications
Greene County Habitat for Humanity is currently set to build a home in Linton. It is taking applications for those who are interested in the home. Little Mr. and Miss Scotland
The Scotland Festival is sponsoring a Little Mr. and Miss Scotland contest for boys and girls ages 3, 4 and 5. The child must be at least 3 years of age and not more than 5 years old on Aug. 31 to be eligible. Children will be judged in three categories: Appearance, personality and show and tell. Switz City Volunteer Fire Department
The Switz City Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a fundraising program to raise money for needed equipment. In the coming weeks all homes in the area will receive a request for a mail-in contribution. Women's group to meet
A women's group will be held at the Worthington Assembly of God at 9 :30 a.m. on Sundays during the summer. During the school season, the group will meet from 10 a.m. - noon on the fourth Tuesday of each month. All women are welcome.

GED testing
GED testing for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is given on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School. Those wishing to take the exam must register in person, one week prior to the exam and present three pieces of ID including one photo ID. Saron Church of Christ
Saron Church of Christ and St. Peter Catholic Church have combined their food pantries. The Linton Community Food Pantry is located at 440 E. St. NE (the former St. Peter Food Pantry). The hours are 1-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. - noon on Saturdays. The St. Peter Thrift Shop will remain open at that location at the same hours.

Lyons Senior Citizens center
The Lyons Senior Citizens Center, 150 N. Jefferson St., now has wooden toy crafts for sale. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Lyons First Christian Church youth group meets at 6 p.m. on Mondays at the church's East Broad Street location.

Jasonville Senior center update
The Jasonville Senior Citizen Center, located at 145 S. Lawton, has opened a country store and gift shop. It will be open from 9 a.m.-noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All proceeds will benefit the senior center. For more information, call the center at 665-9882.

The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield.
