Hardestys apprciate recent support on anniversary

To the Editor:

Ray and Phyllis Hardesty and their family wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to each and every person who helped them celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

On Aug. 31, friends and family gathered at the Linton Housing Community Building. Ray, Phyllis and their guests opened the doors to find a room beautifully decorated by their children, Vertis and Jada and Charlotte and Heidi. Pictures of Ray, Phyllis and many family and friends were arranged throughout the room for all to see and reminisce. Guests also enjoyed submarine sandwiches, fruit and vegetable trays and all the trimmings.

One of the highlights for all was the three-tier wedding cake decorated with yellow roses. There were also 12 dozen chocolate and white cupcakes, each decorated with a single rose.

Ray and Phyllis enjoyed their lunch while visiting with guests. They then posed for pictures as they cut the cake. This was indeed a special moment, as they did not have a wedding cake on the day they were married.

The gathering was from 1-5 p.m., and guests came and went during the entire afternoon. Although not everyone signed the guest book, it is estimated about 85 family and friends were there.

Phyllis and Ray would like to thank each person who was able to attend. They truly enjoyed visiting and talking about all their memories of the past 50 years. They are also thankful for the gifts and the cards they've received. Many were unable to attend, but have taken the time to send cards, and enclose personal notes and congratulations.

Ray and Phyllis know they are blessed to have so many wonderful friends and family. Thank you once again to all who made this a very special 50th wedding anniversary.

Woman says thanks

to reporter, community

To the Editor:

Dear Ms. Ferree:

I wish to thank you for your Aug. 30, 2008 story covering the scheduled appearance of Bob Lamb at the Linton Public Library to share some of his stories from his recently published book 'LONE TREE, Wisdom-Humor-The Great Depression".

Thanks to you for making the local residents aware of the event and the outstanding support and service provided by Shelley Williams and staff at the library, the turnout and book sales were beyond our highest hopes.

We, my brother Bob and I, moved from Lone Tree to Arizona with our parents in 1946, and I hope everyone, especially our Uncle Robert McDonald and his wife Marcella, realize how special it as for us to be greeted so warmly by so many friends and relatives after 62 years.

We know we were home again. It truly was a priceless occasion.

I hope and would appreciate it if this letter could be published in the Greene County Daily World so that your entire community will be aware of just how special they made this visit for us.

says thank you

To the Editor:

As you may know, our downtown office (MainSource Bank) was recently robbed at gun-point. The experience was traumatic in many respects for some of our employees and customers.

Thanks to a lot of good people, this negative incident was quickly brought to a positive resolution. The Linton Police Department performed in an exemplary fashion, as did all law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation. We are very thankful to them, and to the many witnesses who assisted law enforcement without concern for their own safety and well-being.

Last but not least, we are proud of our employees who have done an excellent job throughout this difficult and stressful experience. Our success as an organization depends directly on community support and the performance of good employees like these.

Thank you all.
