Vernon "Skeeter" Lee Riggle, 83, of Brazil, passed away at 8:28 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute.
He was born April 13, 1925, in Jasonville, to James Riggle and Ruth Haseman Riggle.
During World War II he joined the U.S. Army, and served in the Ardennes and Rhineland campaigns. He was honorably discharged Nov. 30, 1945. He married Clarabelle Jean Moore on Oct. 13, 1945. He had been employed as a supervisor with GM/Allisons in Indianapolis for more than 37 years, until his retirement. He was a member of Knightsville Lodge 409 Free and Accepted Masons for more than 50 years, and was a past master and a 32nd Degree Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Jean Riggle; one son, Donald Riggle and wife Anita; two daughters, Regina Paullus and husband Tim, and Cathy Lyon and husband Bob, all of Brazil; one brother, Bob Riggle of Brazil; four sisters, Margaret Chambers of Illinois, Lois Jones and Sue Burk, both of Brazil, and Helen Preece of Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Junior Earl Jutes and Jack Riggle.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Moore Funeral Home, 142 N. Washington St. in Brazil.
A Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Bee Ridge Cemetery, with graveside military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Peniel United Methodist Church.
