Lanis Edward "Doc" Sipes, 92, of Lyons and formerly of Newberry, passed away 7:10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008 at Prairie Village Nursing and Rehab center in Washington.
Born Jan. 15, 1916 in Monroe City, he was the son of Jess and Rebecca (Cox) Sipes.
He was a self-employed grain hauler. He was a member of the Newberry Methodist Church, American Legion Post 196 Bloomfield, and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge No. 84 in Bloomfield.
Surviving relatives include: one brother, Wilbur Dale "Buster" Sipes of Newberry; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Louise (Anderson) Sipes in 1986; his parents; three children, Betty June Newcom, Elouise Geene, and Lanis "Buck" Sipes; one brother, Elbert F. Sipes; one sister, Ruth Malone; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Lyons, with Rev. Chris Gehring officiating. Interment will be in Prairie Chapel Cemetery in rural Lyons.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one-hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Military services will be conducted by American Legion Post 196 of Bloomfield.
