Mary Dorraine Schermerhorn, 86, of Randolph, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, in Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa.
She was born on Dec. 31, 1921, in Jasonville, the daughter of Samuel Houston and Mary Louise (Ansorge) Edelman. She graduated from Switz City High School in Switz City, and received her nursing degree from the Florida Sanitarium in Orlando, Fla. She was employed as a nurse for a number of years at the Florida Sanitarium and later for 17 years at WCA Hospital in Jamestown, N.Y.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, David C. Schermerhorn, whom she married in Deland, Fla., in 1944; son, David E. (Rita) Schermerhorn of Athens, Tenn.; three daughters, Elizabeth A. (Kenneth) Gorth of Randolph, Suzanne I. (Kurt) Welser of Thorne Bay, Alaska and Kathryn I. (Glenn) Maddux of Cleveland, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Matthew and David Schermerhorn of Maine, Wendy Bustamonte of Jackson, Mich., Blake Gorth of Riverside, Calif., Jeremy Welser of Priest River, Idaho and Daron, Tim and Rose Welser, all of Walla Walla, Wash.; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Don Edelman; a sister, Ruth Keller of Cory, Ind.; and many Ansorge and Edelman relatives local to this area.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Joseph L. Schermerhorn, in 1977; four brothers, George, Arley, Paul and James; three sisters, Dorothy Sutton, Lorraine Edelman and Virginia Edelman.
A memorial service will be held later at the family's convenience.
