Born July 21, 1921 in Hamilton County, he was the son of Emmett and Edith (Stanbrough) Wise.
He was a lifetime farmer, he also worked for Westinghouse Electric in Bloomington from 1960-1983, He was a floral/produce vendor at the Farmers Market in Bloomington from 1984-2008 where he was known as the "Glad man."
He served his country in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1945 where he was a member of the 78th Fighter Group flying both the Mustang and Thunderbolt planes. He was credited with 131 missions over Germany. He attended Purdue University and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in rural Owen County.
Surviving relatives include: three sons, Roger Wise of Bloomfield, Raymond and wife Pam of Bloomington, and Ronald and wife Judy of Bloomfield; one brother, Phillip Wise of Cicero; three grandchildren, Krista Turner of Columbus, Ryan Wise of Pendleton, and Megan Wise of Bloomington; four great, grandchildren, Owen Emerson Wise, Nolan Ray Wise, Brooklyn Hendershot, Jake Turner, and Jordan Shipley; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Ann (Langolf) Wise on September 12, 2002 after 56 years of marriage, being married on January 1, 1946, his parents, and one brother, Kenneth Wise.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2008 at New Hope Baptist Church in rural Owen County, with Rev. Tom Dixon officiating. Interment will be in Calvertville cemetery in rural Bloomfield.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield and 1 hour prior to services Monday at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are preferred to the New Hope Baptist Church.
