Charles "Ray" Brown, 92, of Bloomfield, passed away at 11:01a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008 at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.

Born December 1, 1915 in Newberry, he was the son of Henry and Bertha (Corya) Brown.

Ray was a farmer and would have been a teacher at Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church for 72 years this November 30th. He was a member of the Newberry Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years, the Polled Heifer Association, and the Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Janet Marie Bathgate Brown of Bloomfield, five step-sons Ritchie Griffith and wife Jean of San Diego, California, Leland Bathgate and wife Priscella of Sturgis, Michigan. Kimberland Bathgate of Alamogordo, New Mexico. Lonland Bathgate of Sturgis, Michigan. and Kyleland Bathgate and wife Brenda of Sturgis, Michigan. Eight Step-Grandchildren; one sister, Imogene Overman of Shelbyville; three nieces, Cindy Brown White and husband Steve of Switz City, Kelli Brown LaRoache and husband William of Linton, and Peggy Wadsworth of Indianapolis, one nephew, James Brown and wife Charlene of Bloomfield.

Ray was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Griffith Brown, in 1998; four brothers Robert, Leon, Dewey, and Floyd; and his parents

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield, and from 10a.m. until the hour of service at at Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church near Lyons.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the churchwith Pastor John Meunier officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Chapel Cemetery.
