Raymond Austin Stevens, 84, of Jasonville , passed away at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008 in his residence.
The 1942 graduate of Coalmont High School was born August 8, 1924 in Jasonville to John Stevens and Mary Malone Stevens. He was a retired from the U.S. Army plus three years in the U.S. Navy.
He worked as a carpenter and at the Federal Penitentiary in Terre Haute. Raymond was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and a life member of the NRA.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years Dorothy Louise Goodman Stevens of Jasonville whom he married May 13, 1945; one son, Kenneth Stevens and wife Nancy of Ft. Worth, TX; one brother Willard Stevens of Jasonville; one sister, Wilma Collins of Terre Haute; six grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Douglas Stevens; three brothers, Melvin Stevens, Lester Miller and William Miller; one sister, Louise Beatty; and one grandson, John Stevens.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Holmes Memorial Chapel at Sullivan with Pastor Joe Faust officiating. Burial with military graveside rites by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera American Legions and the Sullivan Veterans of Foreign Wars will be in the Center Ridge Cemetery.
