Quick action helps save home from fire

To the Editor:

Thank you Lord.

Thanksgiving day I had a pitch-in dinner for some church family members, after a great meal we all sat around sharing stories mostly of how the Lord had blessed us this year.

The reading room fireplace was glowing, we were all relaxed, tummy's full, when two teenagers, Jeromy Hunt, his cousin, Jake Johnson, and Jeremy's mom Tracey were knocking on the door shouting, your garage is on fire! Quick action from my church family with a fire extinguisher and water hose, and the fire was out. My home was safe with not a lot of damage.

I had to thank the Lord that I was not home alone or at work when this happened. Thank you: Gordon Dornick, Edward Kirby, Wallace Liechty, Joshua Liechty and Gary Woodall for coming later to make sure I was safe, doing a lot of safety checks, and Harry Heaton for installing a fire alarm in the garage.

Thank you Lord for my church family.

Linton woman asks for prayers for her sister

To the Editor:

I'm writing on behalf of my sister, Lovena (Sims) Heaton Carter.

She's in the ICU at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, listed in critical condition.

The worst of her diagnoses is acute pancreatitis, the doctor is giving her a 50/50 chance. He said the pancreatitis could've affected other organs. She's on a respirator because she could barely breathe.

She's on meds to increase her blood pressure, and put her almost completely asleep.

They called in a kidney specialist, they weren't sure if her kidneys had quit or not, they put her on dialysis, her kidneys weren't as bad as they thought. Thank God.

She has an N/G tube down her throat with the respirator tube, she had went to Sullivan first, they had trouble getting the nasogastric tube in her nose.

Her abdomen distended, that's one reason they thought her kidneys had quit.

I want to thank her new neighbor, Gary, I don't know his last name. He made sure she got to Sullivan Hospital ER. If it wasn't for Gary she could be dead now. Her son TJ went to Gary for help, they helped her in the truck. Then she had to be transferred by ambulance to Regional Hospital.

The crisis isn't over yet. She's been at Regional over a week.

We need everyone to pray for her whether you know her or not.

We grew up in Lyons. She's worked as a cook at Country Kitchen and The Grill. She was a nurse's aide at a nursing home in Sullivan, Glenburn, at Linton Nursing Home, and Greene County General Hospital. She had also worked at Linton Wal-Mart, mostly in Lawn & Garden.

I'm asking you please, whether you know her or not, please pray for her. If you would like to send her a card or letter, feel free to send them to my address, when she wakes up I'll make sure she gets them. I don't think she can have mail in ICU at Regional.

My address is 350 SE 7th St. Linton, Ind., 47441

Address it to Lovena Carter c/o Cathy Greenwood at my address.

Thank you all and God Bless you.

Cathy Greenwood,

Linton
