Irene Phillips, 93, of Carlisle, passed away at 4:40 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 26, 2008 at Evansville Protestant Home.
She was born in Sullivan County, Indiana on March 9, 1915 the daughter of Ed Bennett and Sadie Hinkle Bennett.
She was a retired teacher, having taught at Pleasantville and in Dugger at Union. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Irene was a member of the Indian Prairie Church in Carlisle, where she formerly taught adult Sunday School classes, and assisted with Vacation Bible School.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Phillips in 1994.
Survivors include one sister Margaret Alsman of Evansville, and one brother, John E. Bennett and wife Ruth of Peoria, Ill., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 30 at Newkirk's Funeral Home in Dugger with Pastor Bill Sam Phegley officiating.
Burial will be in the Indian Prairie Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday.
