Nick House, department head of electric department, explained, "We had two insulators short out on the main line that feeds the whole town...We don't have any idea (what caused it.) It could have been lightening. But, we have no idea."
The outage hit about 11:30 p.m. and affected the eastern portion of Linton from 8th Street NE to Green Acres, he noted. But, in order to fix the problem the entire system was shut down.
"We did some switching around and we had to shut off the west part of town," House said.
Those customers on the east side of town experienced about a two hour power outage while those customers on the west side experienced an outage for only five to 15 minutes.
It took a minimum of four hours to repair the problem, he noted.
Linton utility customers should report power outages to the Linton Police Department at 847-4411.

Great, now I have to find the manual for my microwave again. I have no freaking idea how to set the time.
I'm just glad the VCR is gone!
Just be lucky u didnt freeze while your furnace was off i would think keeping warm would be better than complaining about my microwave..
I was in on that outage and you better believe the second it went off I was getting extra blankets and putting them on my children, my babies being warm is more important than a microwave!!!!!
Just be thankful you weren't outside in the cold and wind trying to fix the problem like these men were doing. Thank you Nick and crew for your hard work in the middle of a cold, windy night!
I think the microwave anicdote was just sarcasm, if not shame on you per..lol
i am just thankful it wasn't off longer than what it was. thanks guys.
Call the police dept. when the power goes out??!!! The last time I did that I got "smarted off to" by the dispatcher ..... NO THANKS! I'll get out the blankets and fire up the grill!
