He was born April 14, 1926 in Linton, to Guy Joseph Clayton and Opal Adaline (Fines) Clayton.
He was a supervisor for PSI in Terre Haute. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of WW II having served with the 5th Marine Division. He attended Linton High School and was a member of the Lawton-Byrum Post #972 VFW, and a member of B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge in Linton.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Fields) Clayton; a daughter: Susie Curtice (Paul) of Martinsville; two brothers, David Clayton and Jim Clayton; two sisters, Rose Ballard and Mae Nocus; three grandsons, Bryce, Mark, and Travis; one granddaughter: Megan; one great-grandson, Robbie; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Dennis Clayton who died in 1990.
Funeral service will be Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in DeBaun Springhill Chapel at Terre Haute with Greg Puttmann officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Linton with military graveside services conducted by the Linton American Legion Post.
Visitation is Friday January 16, 2009 from 4 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
