God bless America;
we need it!
To the Editor:
Many labor under the delusion that anyone bright enough to attain the highest political offices in the land could "bail" us out of the economic crisis we find ourselves in, especially when they crafted the legislation that got us in this mess in the first place. Trite as it is, when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging!
However, these luminaries in Congress and the White House keep on digging. Maybe that's what they mean by the prattle about "shovel-ready" projects promised in the most recent pork-laden, so-called stimulus spend-a-thon.
My father taught me that you can't spend more than you have. Au contraire, Dad, when, thanks to taxpayers for generations to come, you can tax; when, thanks to lenders who don't have our best interests at heart, lend; and thanks to a handy-dandy printing press, can crank out more money than you can shake a stick at.
Why are we who have lived, live, and will continue to live economically responsibly be forced to bail out those who haven't, don't, and probably won't? Why the Sam Hill do we have to subsidize able-bodied deadbeats and illegal aliens? Answer: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need -- Comrade Lenin. Call it what you will ...
God bless America. We've never needed it more!
