He was born in Perry County on August 3, 1948, the son of William Mack and Ethel M. Blythe.
He served in the United States Army and worked at the Moorman's Feed Company for several years. His memberships included the American Legion Post #22 and the Moose Lodge, both of Linton. He attended the Linton First Christian Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Tina Blythe of Springville; two sons, Bill Blythe of Washington and Melvin (Mandy) Blythe, Jr. of Jasonville; six grandchildren, Lindsay Creek, Erica, Lynn Marie, and Kaitlyn Alexander, Lyric and Dominic Blythe; several brothers and sisters; and a special friend, Rachael.
He was preceded in death by his parent and a brother, Jeff Blythe.
Funeral service will be at 5 p.m. Friday at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday one-hour prior to the service.
