She was born Rosemary Walker on July 6, 1917, in Linton. Her main ambition was to become a designer of children's clothes. Rosemary arrived in New York City in 1941 with her "sewing machine in one hand and her suitcase in the other," and she quickly enrolled in the Fashion Academy of Design there. With her fine talent and determination, she became one of America's leading designers of children's apparel. In New York, she married Frank Dale Curtis at St. Patrick's Cathedral on Dec. 19, 1942. Over the years, she also owned Rosemary's Department Store for Children in Goshen, Ind. Rosemary attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church when she arrived in Ventura, CA. Mrs. Curtis was an inspiration to friends and family and a wonderful example of a life well-lived.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, in 1960, and her son, Richard, in 1996.
Rosemary is greatly missed by her remaining children, Patty Schauer, Thomas and Robert Curtis, and Virginia Curtis, all of Santa Paula, Calif., and Michael and Anne Curtis of Hendersonville, Tenn.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer Curtis, Jessie Dew, Curtiss Moan, Renee Wells, Elizabeth Marquez, Dayle Stidham, Nathan Curtis and Holland Curtis; and great-grandchildren, Jessica Greene, Quinn Brittain and Issabella Wells.
Private burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Linton on Friday, March 6, 2009 with Father Michael Madden officiating.
