She was born Dec. 24, 1928, in Terre Haute to Gray and Kathryne (DePlanty) Burk. She married Wayne Thorlton in 1947.
Margaret was a Garfield High School graduate in 1947. After leaving the Terre Haute area in 1960, she and Wayne moved to Martinsville, then to Milwaukee, Wis., before returning to Martinsville in 1971 where they remained for several years. In later years as failing health became an issue, they moved to Linton to be near their son Dan. She was an active member of the Martinsville Presbyterian Church. She and Wayne enjoyed many extended vacations to Gulf Coast, Fla. and to Gulf Shores, Ala. She looked forward to the Garfield Reunions and her monthly luncheons with the "Garfield Girls". She also was a member of the Martinsville Athletic Booster Association. She was a wonderful mother to her sons and truly enjoyed becoming a grandmother. She is sadly missed by those left behind, but we take comfort in knowing she is now in the care of the Lord.
Survivors include two sons, Dan Thorlton and wife Cindy of Linton, and John Thorlton and wife Paula of Robinson, Ill.; and three grandchildren, Timothy Thorlton of Linton, and Collin and Carter Thorlton both of Robinson, Ill.; a sister, Edna Neff; and a brother, Billy Joe Burk; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her parents, husband in 2008, and five siblings.
Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Roselawn Funeral Home in Terre Haute with Pastor Mike Roth officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Park.
