Jerdon Lee Emery, of Bloomfield, passed away at 11:58 a.m. on Monday, March 24, 2009 at Bloomington Hospital.

Born March 31, 1924 in Linton, he was the son of Jonas Walker Emery and Fanny Ices (Carter) Emery.

Jerdon was a plumber and pipe fitter retired from NSWC Crane. Jerdon also worked as a plumber at Branstetter Plumbing and Heating in Bloomfield. He had performed numerous other jobs in his early years including that of a coal truck driver and taxi cab driver in Bloomfield. Jerdon was a member of Antioch Christian Church. He was an avid gardener who enjoyed gardening with his family, good friends and neighbors. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Jerdon was a veteran of World War II. He was a Technical Sergeant in the U. S. Army, entering service on November 2nd, 1944 discharged on August 31st, 1946. He trained at North Camp Hood, Texas and Fort Kilmer, New Jersey. In the army he drove a tank, military transport truck, and also served as an MP. He served in the European Theatre of Operations, serving in France, Belgium and Germany. He was decorated with the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal.

Surviving relatives include his daughter, Kelly Rae Anderson, of Bloomfield; his granddaughter, Audrey Ellen Anderson Memering; son-in-law, Justin Memering; and great granddaughter Adelyn Kae Memering, all of Vincennes; as well as soon several nieces and nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Ellen Emery in 2006; his father Jonas Walker Emery in 1930; his mother, Fanny Ices (Carter) Emery in 1957; brother Bobby Emery in 1921; infant sister, Susan Lois Emery in 1928; brother Jesse Emery in 1934; brother, Walter Ray Emery in 1992; and two sisters, Doris JoAnn (Emery) Blaker in 1988; and Ruth (Emery) O'Neal in 2007.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2009 and from noon until the hour of the service on Sunday.

Services will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 29 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Revs. Arlen Pope and Billy Ed Hostettler officiating. Burial will follow at Antioch Christian Church Cemetery in Bloomfield. The Bloomfield American Legion will conduct services following the funeral service and at graveside.
