Virgil R. McKee, 63, of Bicknell and formerly of Sandborn, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2009, at his residence.

He was born May 21, 1945, the son of Lawrence and Hazel (Stanton) McKee. On Sept. 18, 1966 he married Jacqualan 'Jackie' M. (Menke).

Virgil was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ in Westphalia, Bicknell BPO Elks No. 1421, Edwardsport Masonic Lodge No. 429 F &AM. He was employed with Crane Navel Warfare Center in Logistics and retired in 2005. He was a Vietnam veteran serving with the U.S. Air Force. He also was a Heart Transplant recipient from Methodist Hospital. Virgil and his wife both graduated together from Vigo High School in 1963 -- now known as North Knox High. He completed an associate's degree from Vincennes University as well.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie McKee; son, Stacey (Lynnette) McKee of Haubstadt; a daughter, Heather (Cory) Earhart of Bicknell; six grandchildren, Macey, Molly, Mallory Earhart and Chandler, Emily and Cole McKee; a brother, Chet (Linda) McKee of Princeton; sisters, Retha McClintock of Linton, Katrina (Roy) Stremming of Sandborn; a brother-in-law, Rex May of Jasper; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Judy (Jimmie) Yagle of Sandborn; and several nieces and nephews.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marilyn May; and father and mother-in-law, Edgar and Maye Menke.

Friends may call at Salem United Church of Christ from 4-8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of service on Monday.

The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, with Rev. Ken Kramer officiating. Interment will follow at the Sandborn Cemetery in Sandborn, IN. The McKee Family has entrusted these arrangements with the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Methodist Heart Transplant Center and the Salem United Church of Christ with envelopes available at the church.
