Linton man

offers his concerns

To the Editor:

I'm writing this in regards to many "bad" things I see in Linton and the area. First are our rotten roads. All of us have to pay a "wheel tax" for every car we own when we renew our plates, that's fine, but I think the guys that the commissioners have do them, really need to go to school to learn "how" to repave a road.

"Our" wheel-tax money is just plainly being wasted on the roads they are doing. For instance, Bolten Road and 150N. Yes the huge holes are gone, but when you drive on those roads, you can see and feel from the car very thin spots of new pavement and high spots on outer edge when the middle is to be higher than sides for water to run off.

Also another problem are the railroad tracks in Linton. Almost "all" need repaired. I can watch Channel 10 news and all you hear is how they call the railroad company to come and fix them "now." Why is it Linton officials cannot call them to make them come out and get these crossings fixed so you don't lose a tire.

Another thing I see are the street lights downtown and along a "major" highway. How come our mayor cannot get jail inmates to come down and paint these street lights. The mayor keeps stressing we need companies to come into our area, but why should they when the first thing they see is a town that lets itself go downhill without any effort on trying to at least beautify it a little bit.

I'm not sure what we "citizens" of Linton can actually do but to complain, not sure if we are truly heard or not. I don't mind paying an extra tax to fix things but I feel they should be done right.

I'd also like to know why on earth is the old police and fire station still standing? About a year ago the mayor said someone was possibly interested. Well I take they dropped out, so why is it still standing and the taxpayers are still paying utilities and insurance on a building not fit to stand?

I am so upset that things are printed in the paper and we never hear back from those people on the outcome on those items. All I can say when it comes election time for these people in charge, think "hard" on what they have and haven't followed through on while they were in charge.
