Miners place fourth
The Linton-Stockton High School boys golf team shot 338, which was good for fourth place at the Edgewood Mustang Invitational Saturday at Cascades Golf Course.
Edgewood won with a total of 307. Greencastle had a 324, Brownstown Central 328, the Miners then Brown County shot 353, West Washington 360, Mitchell 361, Clay City 380, Loogootee 401 and Orleans finished 10th with a 433.
"I was a little disappointed because I figured we could have finished anywhere from second to fourth place," said Linton-Stockton coach Bart Beard. "But we put up a couple of big numbers on a couple of holes."
Chase Rhoten paced the Miners with an 18-hole total of 82. Jordan Bradbury fired an 83, freshman Ben Boyd shot 84, Derrick Bradbury fired a 89 and Luke Jerrells finished with a 94.
"We had two freshmen in our line-up Saturday," Beard said of Boyd and Jerrells. "I was really pleased with our young kids.
"Ben was very solid again."
The Miners' match at Sullivan was postponed Monday. Linton-Stockton and Washington Catholic will golf at Sullivan at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 20.
They will play at Edgewood in an 18-hole match Tuesday, then play Owen Valley and Clay City at Hoosier Hills Thursday before hosting the Tri-River Conference contest at 11 a.m. Saturday at Phil Harris Golf Course.
"At this point, we are showing improvement," said Beard. "I feel like we are headed in the right direction."
