Lady Cards end skid
Shelby Gott tossed a two-hit shutout and helped her own cause with two hits to lead Bloomfield to a 10-0 victory over visiting Union (Dugger) in a Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference softball game Monday night. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Lady Cardinals,
Gott struck out 12 and walked two as Bloomfield improved to 4-4, 1-2 in the SWIAC.
"It was good to break the losing streak," said Bloomfield coach Jessica Lauderdale. "We made some good plays in the field and the girls showed a lot of patience at the plate. We only had four hits, but was able to draw 10 walks. "Shelby did a really good job of throwing strikes."
Elyse Weddle had a hit and Kendra Spelts tripled and drove in one run for the winners. Holly Zschiedrich finished with two RBIs and scored the run that ended the game via the 10-run rule.
Kayla Boyd was the starting and losing pitcher for the Lady Bulldogs, who slipped to 0-8, 0-2 in the conference.
"They showed a lot of patience as we took almost two hours to get the field ready to play," said Lauderdale. "I am just glad that nobody slipped and got hurt."
