L-S kindergarten enrollment
It is time to pre-enroll students for the 2009-10 Linton kindergarten classes. During the month of April, school staff will need to know the names of those students who will be taking the kindergarten screening in May. Children who will be 5-years-old on or before Aug. 1 may take the screening which will be given in the kindergarten rooms in the elementary school on Tuesday, May 19. As pre-enrollment information is received, each child will be given an appointment time to come in for screening. Anyone who needs a pre-enrollment form should contact the elementary school office. Art Center grand opening
The Carnegie Heritage and Arts Center of Greene County will hold its grand opening May 16 from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. The event will include the opening of the art gallery and history museum as well as live music by finger-style guitarist Kade Puckett. The center is located at 110 East Vincennes St. in Linton.
Juvenile Diabetes fundraiser
Linton Burger King will hold a fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation from 5 - 8 p.m. April 27 with 20 percent of the proceeds going to juvenile diabetes research.
Linton Municipal Utilities
The Linton Water Department will flush fire hydrants from 8 p.m. - 6 a.m. April 26-30. During this time, customers may experience discolored water that has been known to cause stains in white or light colored clothing. For additional information contact the water department at 847-4971.
Worthington Park Open House
The Worthington Park Board will host an Open House in the Hinchman Shelterhouse in the park from 2-4:00 p.m. Saturday to celebrate the renovation of the building and grounds damaged in the Great Flood. The public is invited for pie and ice cream, tea and coffee.
Linton Moose
Linton Moose will have a fish and shrimp dinner at 5 p.m. Saturday. Public is invited.
LSHS Band and Miner Kadet Boosters
A parents' meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 27 in the high school resource room. All band and Miner Kadet parents are invited to attend.
Linton Masonic Lodge
Linton Masonic Lodge will have work in the M.M. degree today. Dinner at 6:15 p.m. and degree work at 7 p.m.
Flower sale
An annual/perennial flower and miscellaneous sale will be held from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. May 9 at the Jasonville Senior Citizen Center located on South Lawton Street in Jasonville. The flowers and plants are being donated by local gardeners. All proceeds go to the center.
Spring Revival
Little Cincinnati Christian Church will hold its spring revival May 3 -6 at 7 p.m. each evening with music at 6:45 p.m. Ben Merold of Missouri will be the guest speaker. For more information call 825-5691.

'My Journey Home'
Koleen Union Church will host a combined service with Walnut Grove on Sunday at Koleen. Service will begin at 6 p.m. A special of "My Journey Home" will be presented by the host church. Everyone is welcome to attend.
UMWA meeting

A carnival with a food court, face painting, hair booth, ring toss, family photo booth and more will be held at the Eastern Greene High School from 4 - 8 p.m. Saturday.
Gospel sing
Linton's First Church of God will hold a gospel sing from 6 - 7 p.m. Sunday with Tanner Laughlin providing musical entertainment. Laughlin is contracted to record in Nashville. Refreshments will be served following the program -- which is free to the public. The church is located on State Road 54 East in Linton.

Linton NARFE
Linton NARFE Chapter 1688 will meet at 6:30 p.m. April 27 at Stoll's Restaurant in Linton. Ann Cardinal of Generations will discuss nursing home residents rights. A report on the just completed NARFE State Convention will also be given. All active and retired federal employees and their guests are invited.
Spring garden program
The Linton Public Library will host a Spring Gardening Program at 6 p.m. today with guest speaker Ina Massey who has an Associate Applied Science degree in Horticulture. Massey will talk about annuals-perennials-native plants, green ways to control pests with natural pesticides and how to get ready to garden with tool care. The library will showcase the new books in its collection on these topics. If you have spring fever and are itching to get out in the garden, this is a great program to get you started. Spring Fling II
The Linton Library will have a celebration of music from 12:30 -- 3 p.m. Saturday. Spring Fling II is a program provided by grant funds from the Bloomington Area Arts Council, the Indiana Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. At 12:30 p.m., Fred Shields and the band Salt Cured will provide background into bluegrass music and will entertain until 1:30 p.m. with some real toe-tapping music to welcome spring.
At 2 p.m. Tony Kluesner will explain the background of the steel drums and then play for a relaxation and enjoyment period. Take a break and attend for a fun packed, musical spring afternoon. Reservations are requested at 847-7802.
Revival
Sylvania Wesleyan Church will hold revival April 24-29 with Rev. John Coffey from West Virginia. Services start at 7 p.m. each night and at 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday. Directions from Bloomington: take State Road 45 W for 11 miles past Walmart to light at State Road 445. Continue straight onto 445 for about one mile to blinker. Turn left onto State Road 54 and go 1/2 mile. Turn right onto Sylvania Rd. at the new Eastern High School. Go three miles to church. From Bloomfield: take State Road 54 E about seven miles to Ray's Auto Salvage on the left; CR 800 turns right. Take CR 800 to stop sign & turn left. Go 4/10 mile to church. Book Sale in Bloomfield
The Friends of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Library will host a book sale today from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the library's community room at 125 S. Franklin Street, Bloomfield. Due to the large number of recent donations, there are lots of books, tapes, and magazines for children and adults, all at very low prices. There will be another book sale on the patio of the library May 2 during the town-wide yard sale. During this sale the library's teen volunteers will be selling lemonade and cookies to raise money to benefit the teen room at the library.
Kindergarten registration
Bloomfield Elementary School will hold kindergarten registration for the 2009-10 school year from 2 - 7 p.m. April 30 at the elementary school. Parents may enter the school from South Street at the superintendent's office with registration in the Literacy Lab. Students must be by 5 years of age by Aug. 1. Please bring the following information: child enrolling, immunization record, social security number, copy of birth certificate, proof of residence (township) and emergency phone numbers. Civitan Sample Fair
The 2009 Civitan Sample Fair will be from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. May 16 at the 4-H Fairgrounds building on State Road 54 East near Switz City. Door prizes, new booths and lots of goodies will be available. Tickets are $1.50. For booth information call 847-9236, 847-9936 or 648-2129.
Classes at Community Learning Center
A Beginning Microsoft Word 07 class starts April 27 at the Community Learning Center at White River Valley High School. It will meet for four Mondays from 6-8:30 p.m. Cost is $105. A Project Management class will meet starting April 23. You can learn to prioritize and handle multiple tasks. It will meet from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Cost is $75. Vincennes University has added a Speech course for the summer and a full line of Math courses including Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, and Trigonometry.
Lyons Senior Center breakfast
A biscuit, gravy, egg, sausage and pancake breakfast will be held from 7 - 10 a.m. Saturday at the Lyons Senior Center. Orange juice, coffee and milk will also be served. Donations only. A bake sale will also be held in conjunction with the breakfast. Tickets for a 33 piece expression deluxe set of cookware will be on sale for $1 each or six for $5.
Memory Makers Quilt Guild
The Memory Makers Quilt Guild of Greene County will hold a quilt show May 1-2 in the community room of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Library -- which is located at 125 S. Franklin St. in Bloomfield. Admission is free and the public is welcome.
Greene County Swim Team
Sign-ups for the Greene County swim team will be from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. May 16 at Linton Sporting Goods.
Open Arms Christian Ministries
Open Arms Christian Ministries will be host its annual meeting for supporters today from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Greene County 4-H Fairgrounds. Black Buggy will be catering the event. Please RSVP at 659-2533.
Bloomfield Masonic Lodge
Bloomfield Masonic Lodge will hold a called meeting April 27 with meal at 6 p.m. to be followed by 50 year awards of gold and a master mason degree at 7 p.m.
Diagnostic Screening Echocardiograms
The Care Group, cardiologists from Indianapolis, and Greene County General Hospital will offer "free" screening Echocardiograms to local incoming freshman or any other high school student in the county and Dugger that has not received one in the past. This diagnostic test is to help detect cardiac problems that may go unnoticed and will be from 3 - 7 p.m. June 23 on the second floor of the hospital in Linton. Consent forms are required and can be picked up at the Greene County Daily World in Linton, Greene County Ambulance service in Bloomfield or the hospital's administration office in Linton. Students must have this completed, signed and with them prior to the exam or their parent must accompany them.

Flower and Patio Show April 25-26
The Fifth Annual Greene County Master Gardener's Flower and Patio Show will conducted Saturday and Sunday at the Greene County Fairgrounds. The show will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 25 and 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. April 26. Admission is free. The show features vendors, demonstrations, plant sale, food, free trees, raffle. The fairgrounds is located one mile east of Switz City on State Road 54.
Greene County Humane Society
The Greene County Humane Society has a few Shop-A-Thon Coupon Books remaining from its fundraiser. Booklets are $44.95 or save $5 each when you buy two or more.
Burris Chapel Cemetery
The Burris Chapel board members will meet at 7 p.m. today to discuss the upkeep of the cemetery. The meeting will be at the residence of Rodney Walker.
1960-70 Linton-Stockton class reunion
The deadline for advanced tickets to the LSHS 1960-70 class reunion has been extended to May 1. Advance tickets are $20 person. Tickets at the door are $30 per person. Shakamak class of 1967 to meet
The 1967 Shakamak High School graduates should mark Sept. 25 on their calendars as a 60th birthday celebration is planned. Peavey Cemetery
Spring clean-up for the Peavey Cemetery is underway. Wreaths and other such winter decorations need to be removed prior to this date. Memorial decorations that interfere with mowing should be removed prior to June 15.
Miniature golf fundraiser
Friends for Kids of Daviess County will be host its annual Miniature Golf Tournament Saturday at Putter's Bay course in Washington. There will be a shotgun start at 10 a.m. with several prizes. This is the annual fundraiser for the organization that mentors children of Daviess County. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for children. Greene County Republican Party
"An Evening with Lincoln" will be hosted by the Greene County Republican party April 30 at the 4-H fairgrounds. At 5:30 p.m. a reception will kick-off the event and will be followed by dinner, a silent auction and the program. Guest speaker is Lonn Pressnall, a professor at the University of Illinois, who has 40 years experience with Lincoln presentations. Fairview Cemetery clean-up
Fairview Cemetery clean-up is now underway. The city of Linton asks that all flowers, wreaths, hangers, hooks, etc. be removed from the graves. Only those attached to the stone will be kept. To retrieve any decorations contact Cemetery Superintendent Larry Fulford. Items will be taken to the caretaker office area for your convenience.
