Marcus M. Bartley, 92, of Dugger, passed away at 12:25 a.m. Saturday April 25, 2009 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
He was born in Greene County on June 4, 1916, the son of Russell Bartley and Nellie Fulk Bartley.
Marcus was preceded in death by his wife Naomi Allen Bartley in 2002, also a brother Jack Bartley.
He was a self-employed farmer, a lifetime member of the Dugger Masonic Lodge #721, Scottish Rite of Terre Haute, Dugger Business Club and a Dugger volunteer fireman. He was formerly the manager of the Kroger Store in Dugger, and then owned Bartley Red and White grocery store and is a past Landman of the Amax Coal Co., and former Trustee of Cass Township.
Survivors include one daughter, Markita Burcham (Richard) of Nashville, Ill.; one sister, Martha Bennett of Florida; four grandchildren, Richard Andrew Burcham (Jan) of Auburn, Alabama, Matthew Bartley Burcham (Sheila) of Nashville, Ill., Millie Ann Peters (Benjamin) of Springdale, Ark., Joel Tyler Burcham (Jill) Broomfield, Col.;and seven great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009 at the Dugger Cemetery with Rev. Scott Chambers officiating.
Friends may call at Newkirk's Funeral Home in Dugger from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday. Masonic services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
