Harold D. Powell, 84, of Linton, entered into rest on Monday, April 27, 2009. He was born on June 27, 1924 in Linton, IN to Jacob (Jake) and Zella (Tincher) Powell. He married Leola Ruth Page on June 6, 1945. He married Mary S. Sargent on July 5, 1988.

Harold served in the US Navy during WW II on the Battleship USS Texas and Light Cruiser USS Miami. He worked at Crane Naval Ammunition Depot for 34 years, retiring in 1980. He was owner/Operator of Powell Marine Sales, Linton, IN, for 50 years. Harold was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church and attended Nine Mile United Methodist Church. He was also a member of American Legion Post #22, VFW Post #7118. Harold supported the Linton community; Linton Chamber of Commerce, Little League Baseball, Bowling League, plus area school functions.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Powell; one sister, Maita Norene Stevenson of Linton, IN; son, Kent (Priscilla) Powell of Arcadia, IN; daughter, Sheila Powell of Coppell, TX; two step-daughters, Clara (Michael) Griffin of Oviedo, FL and LouAnn Duncan of Linton, IN; three grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild; and a special family friend and caregiver Millicent Patti.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Leola Ruth Page, infant sister, Mary Ann Powell, step-son, William (Bill) Veatch, and friend/ brother-in-law Arnold (Jane) Sargent.

For those who wish to make memorial contributions, the family has named Disabled American Veterans or American Cancer Society.

Friends may call at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel from 4-8 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2009 and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the hour of service.

Please join the celebration of his life at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 2, 2009. Internment will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Linton, with military graveside rites.
