Carl English Porter, Jr., 69, of Jerseyville, IL and formerly of Jasonville, died at 2:17 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2009.
Born Sept. 16, 1939 in Linton to Carl Morgan Porter
and Rosalind Elnor (English) Porter.
He was a retired Middle School science teacher and taught in Jersey Community Unit School District 100 for more than 30 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville, Greater Alton Area Barbershop Harmony Society and NEA (National Education Association).
Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and D.B. Cummings of Florissant, MO, Sarah Porter of Florissant, MO, Betsy and Jeff Rachel of Florissant, MO; sisters, Mary Jo Brown of Terre Haute; grandsons, Xander Cummings, Matthew Cummings, Jesse Rachel; and he was formerly married to Lynn Tennis, whom he married on June 13, 1970 in Jasonville. The couple divorced in 1998.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation is Monday, May 18 from 4-8 p.m. at the Alexander & Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, IL, and 9-11 a.m. Wednesday May 20 at the McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home; 631 E Main ST; Jasonville.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home with Elder D.B Cummings officiating.
Burial will be at Marco Cemetery in Marco.
