Two dead in apparent murder-suicide in Bedford

Monday, May 18, 2009

BEDFORD -- A Bedford City Police officer and his estranged girlfriend are dead in an apparent murder-suicide, according to a report issued by the Indiana State Police Post at Bloomington.

"At 8:36 a.m. Monday, the Lawrence County Sheriffs Department responded to a shots fired call at 1051 Trenton Circle, Bedford. Upon their arrival deputies discovered a male and female subject deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. The male subject was recognized by deputies as a Bedford Police Officer, an agency the Sheriffs Department works closely with. This prompted the Lawrence County Sheriff to contact the Indiana state Police Bloomington Post to head up the investigation," said Sgt. Don Gregory, ISP Public Information Officer.

Preliminary investigations indicate Kathryn R. Tucker, 29, of Bedford, had recently ended a relationship with Kyle Brown, 35, also of Bedford.

"This morning Mr. Brown drove his personal vehicle to her residence at which time he made entry into her home," Sgt. Gregory said.

According to the Lawrence County Coroner, John Sherrill, both subjects died from apparent gunshot wounds.

"Mr. Brown's fatal wound appeared to be consistent with a self inflicted one," Gregory noted in a prepared news release.
