He was born on April 5, 1941 in Bloomington. the son of Ivan and Mary (Bennett) Kean.
He was a retired employee of the Indiana University Physical Plant where he worked in the control center for more than 30 years. He previously worked for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources when Lake Monroe was being opened up to the general public. A 1959 graduate of Bloomington High School, he was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was very fond of photographing old barns and participating in sport shooting. He was a member of the Triple H Gun Club, the Sycamore Valley Gun Club and the National Rifle Association.
Robert is survived by his wife, Julie (Shields) Kean of Bloomington; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Lee and Kathy Kean of Gosport; three step-sons; Cary (wife Lena) Dreher of Ellettsville, Scott Dreher and Bryan Chapin, both of Bloomington; one granddaughter, Katee Kean; four step-grandchildren, Russell Leonard, Sara Dreher, Sydnee Dreher and Scott Dreher, Jr.; one brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Debbie Kean of Linton; three nephews, Patrick Kean of Fishers, Timothy Kean and Andrew Kean, both of Sullivan; and four aunts, Ida Bennett of Bloomington, Genevieve Sater of Sullivan, Evelyn Kennedy of Columbus and JoAnn Bennett of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old State Rd. 37, in Bloomington with Rev. Dennis Laffoon officiating. Burial will be at Chambersville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and one hour preceding the services on Friday.
