She was born in Sullivan County, July 18, 1921, the daughter of Ray and Hazel (Behem) Newkirk.
Jessie Rae graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1939, and Indiana State University in 1943 with a teaching degree. She taught music and English at Pleasantville High School until joining her parents in the family business.
She was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, where she owned and operated Newkirk's Furniture Store and Newkirk's Funeral Home. She had maintained the family business started by her parents in Pleasantville now into its 93rd year of continued service.
Jessie Rae was a member of the Dugger Church of Christ, Order of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was most well known for her compassion and understanding while "Helping families thru one of life's most difficult times."
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lowell Frederick "Bud" Brust.
Survivors include her son Terry R. (wife, Becky) Brust of Dugger; grandson, Frederick Ray Brust of Dugger; and special friend, Lou Lucas of Dugger.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Newkirk's Funeral Home in Dugger.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with Brother J.B. Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Dugger Cemetery.
