He was born Aug. 1, 1932 in Coal City, to John "Matt" and Ada (Dyer) Slough.
He was retired from Peabody Coal Company in1994 after 38 years, where he had operated a dragline and was a farmer. Von was an Army veteran of the Korean War, Reserve Deputy for Owen Co. Sheriff's Dept., member of Coal City Community Bible Church, Coal City American Legion, Worthington V. F. W., Greene Lodge #577 F. & A. M.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Madona (Wells) Slough, Coal City; one son Phil (Cathy) Slough, Coal City, 2 grandchildren, Travis (Beth) Slough & Courtney Slough, Coal City; one great granddaughter, Annaleigh; one brother, Max (Katie) Slough, Linton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Frank Slough, 4 sisters, Mary Soeffing, Louise Smith, Carrie Haviland and Fern Bucklew.
Funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington.
Friends may call at Welch & Cornett 3-7 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. Monday until time of service. Masonic Service 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home
Burial will be in Littlejohn Cemetery where a military graveside service will be conducted.
