Jack Vincent Garwood, 77, of Linton, passed away at 7:49 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born July 31, 1932, in Patoka, the son of Charles Vincent & Ruth (Brown) Garwood.

He previously worked as a meat cutter at the Linton Kroger Store and later owned and operated the Linton Curtis-Mathes Store. He currently worked for several years at Meijer's as a prime meat cutter. He was an Electronics Technician graduate of Sam's Technical Institute & Technology in Indianapolis. He was a tanker in the United States Army.

Survivors include his wife, Irene (Shields) Garwood, to whom he was married June 20, 1975; two daughters, Karen (Joe) Barbee of Jasonville and Teresa (Eric) Wonders of Port Neches, TX; a son, Jack (Rita) Garwood, Jr. of Linton; two step-children, Carolyn Bowersock of Linton and Connie (Ronald) Banks of Indianapolis; a sister, Jane Horrall of Hazelton; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandchild, Ashley Jo Barbee; two brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton with Pastor Bill Pursell officiating.

Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton. Linton American Legion Post #22 will conduct military graveside rites.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and after noon Wednesday until the hour of the service.
