Myrtle Irene (Freeman) Gentry passed away on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009.
Her life's journey began on Dec. 18, 1915 in Owen County as the first child of Estel and Pearl (Hendricks) Freeman.
She married W. Glenn Gentry on Aug. 26, 1936 and together they had four children -- W. Dean Gentry of Paragon, Barbara J. Shields of Bloomington, Donna G. Harbstreit of Washington, and John F. Gentry of Bloomfield.
She was a 50-plus year member of New Hope Baptist Church of which she served as Church Clerk for 33 years and was a member of the New Hope Ladies Aid. Later she was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church. She was a 30-year member of Order of the Eastern Star.
She was a homemaker and in later years was employed by Spencer Owen Community Schools as head baker for 12 years. She had many and varied interests, her most passionate ones being cooking, gardening and sewing.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, her parents and two brothers, Paul Freeman and Bernard Freeman. Survivors are three sisters, Mary Freeman and Mildred Hendricks of Solsberry and Naomi Holtzclaw of Bloomington, one brother, Clifford Freeman of Bloomington, and her sister-in-law, Glapha Gentry Boles, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home in Spencer. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. today and Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
