Victor E. Newton, 72, of Linton, passed away on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 in Linton.
He was born May 17, 1937, the son of Ernest and Veda (Martin) Newton.
He retired from Peabody Coal Company after 31 years of service. He was a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church in Linton and of the United Mine Workers Association. He was a professional auction attendee.
Survivors include his wife, Violet Kay (Bovenschen) Newton, to whom he was married 51 years, a son, Jim (Tammy) Newton of Princeton, six grandchildren, Jeremy (Gina) Newton, Nikki (Casey) Prunty, Josh (Amanda) Newton, Jessica (Eric) Daugherty, Logan Doyle, and Jacob Doyle, and four great-grandchildren, Regan and Kaden Prunty and Dylan and Devan Simon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Velva Jean Johnson, and a brother, Vernice Lee "Bud" Newton. He and his daughter, Debra (Daugherty) Doyle, passed away together.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Olive Branch Baptist Church in Linton, with Pastors Myron Young and Dan Kemp officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. on Friday at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton and at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Logan and Jacob Doyle Trust Fund through the funeral home.
