Born in Martin County on Oct. 22, 1924, he was the son of Curtis and Verna (Dowden) Waggoner.
Following graduation from Burns City High School in 1941, he joined the U.S. Army Air Force. Serving with the 492nd Bomb Group (H) and the 36th Bomb Squadron (RCM) of the "Mighty Eighth" Air Force in World War II, he was a flight engineer and waist gunner on the B-24 "Lady Jane."
He retired in 1979 after 33 years as a civilian employee of the United States Navy, SPCC Ships Parts Control Center, at Mechanicsburg, Pa., after being transferred there from Crane. He moved back to Odon in 1981.
He was a longtime member of the Odon Masonic Lodge where he served as both Past Master and Secretary; the Odon American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars; Eastern Star; Odon Lions Club; and the Pleasant Hill Community Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as sisters Beulah Parsons, Zelma Mumaw, and his twin Deloris Arford.
He is survived by his two sons: Tom Waggoner of Safford, Arizona; and Bob (Ellen) Waggoner of Albuquerque, New Mexico; four grandchildren: Heather (Myron) Gabbert, Brian (Tara) Waggoner, Melinda Waggoner, and Jessica Waggoner; nine great grandchildren: Alyssa, Miranda, Buddy, Marissa, Ty, Vance, Shaela, Robby, and Natalie; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling will be Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the Odon First Christian Church. Eastern Star will hold a service at 7 p.m., followed by Masonic services at 7:30 p.m.
Arrangements are with Poindexter-Hall & McClure, Odon Chapel.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church with the Bro. Richard Crabtree officiating. Burial will be at Scotland Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
