Mary I. Sturgis, 88, of Worthington, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the residence of her daughter.

She was born Sept. 7, 1921, in Bridgeport, to Virgil and Lula (Hollingsworth) Hunt.

She was a homemaker. Member of V. F. W. Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, both of Worthington.

She is survived by six children, Everett (Diane) Sturgis, Jr. of Linton, Paul (Julia) Sturgis of Poland, John Sturgis of Bloomington, Naomi (Gary) Weinke of Linton, Diana (Jim) Wicker of Worthington, Mary Lou (Steve) Henson of Danville, IL; 30 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred F. Bertram of Worthington; a niece, Wanda LaMar of Worthington; and a nephew, Russell Bertram of Indianapolis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett Sturgis, Sr. on Jan. 29,1979; two sons, Thomas and Charles Sturgis; one daughter, Barbara Ann Long; a great-grandson, Collyn D. Thurston; and one brother, Charles Hunt.

Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 with Bro. Davy Dyer officiating.

Burial will follow at Worthington Cemetery.

Friends may call on Monday at Welch & Cornett from 5-9 p.m., and from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday.
